The old adage is that if you want to find love, you have to be able to love yourself. That's especially true in today's current age of apps, online dating, and swiping to possibly find your true love.
But first and foremost, you have to make sure that you're comfortable loving yourself - because depending on someone else for your own feelings will never lead to happiness. So here are a few things that we think you should be comfortable doing by yourself before you subject your significant other to them.
- Eat Alone
Some people are terrified of dining alone. There's no need for fear, just delicious delicious food. Eating by yourself is an incredible experience, because, like the other things on this list, it allows you to completely indulge in....yourself. So bone up and take yourself on a date and order yourself a nice red and a T-Bone steak.
- See a movie by yourself.
You know what's the best? Viewing a film on one's own. Treat yourself to a mid-week matinee, and you'll have a hard time going back to group movie nights. Seeing a movie is an absolute pleasure, because you can have as much popcorn and soda as you want, and no one will be quietly poking you to ask you what's going on with which character. Go enjoy some cinema, and proudly order a ticket for one.
- Enjoy the Outdoors by Oneself
Hikes are a great romantic activity, perfect for that second or third date. But before you ask your partner to strap on their shoes and break out their best dry-fit clothing, you should probably have a one on one with nature. Obviously be safe, but it's time to fill your water bottle, bring some headphones, and have an experience in nature, all to yourself.
- Sophisticated Solitude
Got a good museum, art gallery, or creative space near you? Time to purchase a ticket for yourself, and only for you. Art is incredibly subjective, so use this solo culture exploration to enjoy exactly what YOU like, and really take it all in, without feeling pressured to move on to the next exhibit (or conversely, get as quickly out of a snooze-inducing sculpture garden as you please).
- Companionless Cuisine
Cooking with a partner is intimate, fun, and a great way to kill a bottle of wine in a casual environment. But before you break out aphrodisiacs for your next stay at home date, take the time to treat yourself to a fancy home-cooked meal for one. We're not talking about throwing some mac and cheese in a pot. No, we suggest that you tackle a new and challenging dish, all for yourself. The process and rhythmic preparation is a great way to let your mind wander, and at the end of all the cooking, you get to taste the fruits of your labor. And we all know, that food that you've cooked yourself just tastes that much better.
When you've completed your unaccompanied exploration of self, and it's time to think about leaving your singledom behind, don't forget about our Three Day Rule Matchmakers who can set you up with the perfect cooking, hiking, culture and movie companion.
