Meet Kara Laricks!

HOMETOWN: Overland Park, Kansas

CURRENT NEIGHBORHOOD: Chicago, Illinois

BACKGROUND: Kara has traveled the country speaking to audiences about the power of realizing their potential and revealing their authentic self. Kara has inspired so many sharing her personal story as a closeted fourth-grade teacher, turned out and proud designer and speaker as an advocate for the inclusion and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community.

UNIQUE JOURNEY: Raised in the Midwest, with a BA in Elementary Education followed by a MA in Curriculum and Instruction both from the University of Kansas, Kara taught first in Kansas and later in California. While living in San Francisco, she enrolled in the master's program in fashion design at the Academy of Art University. Her graduate fashion show featured her unique menswear-inspired collection; and after moving to New York, Kara designed, produced, and sold her own accessories line, went on to win NBC's Fashion Star, and has had her signature masculine meets feminine designs featured everywhere from Saks Fifth Avenue and H&M to The Today Show and HBO's True Blood.

FIRST DATE PRO TIP: "Lose the list and feel the feels. A lot of prep work has gone into a first date in terms of checking off your important must-haves, so once you are on the date, forget your list and truly focus on the connection with the person in front of you."

PERSONAL SUCCESS STORY: "While living in San Francisco, I had a strong hunch about matching two quirky, intelligent and hilarious girlfriends of mine. We made plans (the three of us) and 10 minutes in, the two of them ditched me. Now almost 10 years later, those two lovebirds are happily married, moved to Portland and have a furry dog daughter named Scout."

MATCHMAKING STYLE: Kara's goal is to find love for her clients, this means self-love, a love of the dating adventure, and of course, that deep, romantic, "eeee-butterflies-in-the-stomach" kind of love.

Kara is a powerful voice and connector in the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to matchmaking, Kara's experience includes roles as educator, public speaker, writer, editor, and notable NY Fashion Week designer. Above all, she is passionate about the power of human connection. This passion for love and her commitment to the LGBTQ+ community's safety and happiness drives her to work with others in their journey toward fulfilling long-term relationships. Kara provides genuine, compassionate, and honest guidance while connecting her clients with incredible matches.
